I love this stuff.  Love it.  I want to cover everything in it.  I just may, watch out.

First to show you how much I love it...

Okay, This is the background of a self portrait I am doing for class, totally not done yet, but I had to share.

So far I'm loving it, here is a close up of my favorite corner...

Ink-Jet Transfer Mini Tutorial Art Every Day 67

Two new fun things for the collage/painting I'm working on.

I wanted to add some pictures, but don't want to actually use the photographs, I'd like those preserved.  Soooo......I scanned them in and printed the scans out on old book pages.  The are in black and white and look old, crinkly and so cool!

 

Secondly, I've been wanting to try image transferring for a while now.  Today I did it with success!  Most of the techniques I have been reading about require a toner or photocopy of an image.  The only access I have, with out heading to the copy shop, is an ink-jet printer.  water based products and ink...don't mix, the smuuuudddggge.  Big Time.  I tried.

But!  With a GEL medium I was able to produce the results I was looking for!

1. You will need an ink-jet cpy of an image you love, high contrast a plus. If you are using TEXT and not just practicing, Mirror Image your text, or you will end up with a backwards word, like I did. Boo.

 

2.  Water, Gel medium ( I used Golden, self leveling clear gel) paintbrush, finger, something to transfer to.

3.  Coat the printed side of your image with the gel medium.

4.  Place your image ( right side down) on your desired transfer surface (in my case, just a piece of paper) could be a canvas, cloth or anything else you want to try.

5.  DRY

6.  Really dry it, use a heat gun of you are impatient ( I am)

7.  When it is totally dry, and only if it is totally dry, apply some water to the back of your image.

8.  Using your finger/s rub the water gently into the paper to reveal the image.

9.  I found using some of the paper pulp that comes up works as a gentle abrasive and helps attract the wet pulp.

10.  After all the paper pulp has been removed you will have a beautiful transfer onto your choice of surface.  LOve That!

11.  I didn't get a picture, but I put a thin layer of gel medium over the top to seal it and clear up any teeny-tiny mini pulp bits that may linger, and make it silky smooth.

I don't suggest doing this on sketch pad paper, as I did; it is just too thin and the water can soak it too.
