I Like You...Lots

I do, I really really do.

Today has been a really hard day.  After waking up at 4:30 driving three hours to class, giving a presentation I had a week to prepare in a giant auditorium in which I couldn't refer back to my notes because it was so dark I couldn't see them, I had to go to my research class. 

I hate this class.  This classes causes me more anxiety than any other class ever has in the history of classes because there is so much black and white information, and math, and numbers, and math.  The professor asked us what we wanted to learn about research during the class.  I responded, in tears mind you, that I understood virtually nothing and needed to learn everything.

Today has been a hard day.

I am happy to say I am onto my FAVORITE class EVER!  And during this class I will be able to do a bit of research processing thru art.  Also my research professor kindly offered lots of help and some meetings to work together.

Well here is my doodle of the day.  I feel like I need a little magic in my life right now and what's more magical than even David Copperfeild (ha ha) you ask?

It's a New Year and Time to Get This Ball Rolling Again!

Hi Friends.  Welcome to 2014...only 7 days late, but who's counting?  Right before the new year happened I was thinking about Art Every Day and whether or not to just dump this site and kinda forget about it.  Really who would notice...I haven't posted anything since LAST OCTOBER, and postings before that are sparse. 

I have myself a new goal.  A SMART goal of sorts...  Something Simple, Manageable, Attainable, Recordable, and Time-sensitive.

I am challenging myself to do a doodle a day.  Sounds silly right?  Well, maybe it is actually, but I need to do something outside of my classes that I enjoy & gives me a little down time to unwind and decompress from  the day.  (Being a master's Level Art Therapy & Counseling student is tough work.  Okay, enough pity party crap.)

This kinda began because I want to develop my hand-lettering abilities.  I think I have pretty handwriting in general, but hand lettering in a simple and interesting way is a great deal more work than it sounds.  many or most of the pieces will include text.  Lots of quotes, things I have overheard, words that resonate that day...really anything.

I am taking suggestions!  Comment below, and tell me a phrase, quote , or word you would like to see me incorporate into one of my daily doodles.

In August I began a graduate program in Art Therapy at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

This is very exciting for me.

With this program I will be making a lot of art, and reading a SHIT TON of books, articles, and all that jazz.  Sooooo I thought I would re-start my Art Every Day via school stuff.  Some of it will be visual journaling, some in class exercises, and then just some miscellaneous stuff.

Sounds good right?

Right.

Art Every Day 2.0 | A Response | Geometric Tree

Art Every Day 2.0 | A Fresh Start | Clay Peony

Since I graduated from UMW in May I began a graduate program in Art Therapy.

This is very exciting for me.

With this program I will be making a lot of art, and reading a SHIT TON of books, articles, and all that jazz.  Sooooo I thought I would re-start my Art Every Day via school stuff.  Some of it will be visual journaling, some in class exercises, and then just some miscellaneous stuff.

Sounds good right?

Right.

This is something I worked on in my Process and Materials class.  It is clay.  We were working through sensory art making, so this piece was done with my eyes closed, with no preconceived notion of what it might become.

When I opened my eyes and looked at it I immediately thought of a peony. 

My favorite flower.

While I was working with the clay a flower was the last thing on my mind.  In fact, my mind was wandering through things that need to be read, clothes that needed to be dropped at the cleaners, toothpaste that needs to be bought...flowers?  Nope, but it didn't take my mind more than a split second to see a flower.

That seems like a good sign.

I proceeded to smash and smush this into a few other shapes before retiring the ball of clay back to the pile. 

This was all about the process.
