One of my professors used to say, "Paint what you see, not what you know" --That has helped me immensely, I say it like a mantra while I am painting.
My professor said to another student today..."You are not painting the elephants, you are painting the surfaces that make an elephant, that is how you get elephants." --I need to figure out how to use that one too!
